i missed some of the comments that john boehner made. let me give you a quick summary of the highlights here, and let's call them highlights because finally kumbaya. hope it lasts. the senate majority leader harry reid suggested both of us, we're both going to have to give up what we want and call this the cornerstone of working something out. that sounds good. then nancy pelosi, the house minority leader, saying that this has to be about cuts. this has to be about revenue. this has to be about growth and that she is confident a solution is in sight. sounds good, too. and then the house minority leader or rather the minority leader mitch mcconnell also suggesting that this was a constructive meeting and that we are prepared to put revenue on the table. they just emerged from the meeting. looked like they were going right back in. maybe they were going to have lunch. i don't know. they sure deserve it if they're able to come to rhetoric like that any any case. take to you break for a moment and hopefully i can scramble up wolf blitzer. gi

what we got today was an offer, a framework from the speaker john boehner who is calling for spending of revenue targets to be set this year and an overhaul of entitlement and tax reform to begin next year, 2013. what we got at the end of the talks today with a willingness to compromise. >> we're both going to have to give up some of the things we know are a problem. >> i will be continue to have revenue on the table, for my college to show the american people that we are serious about cutting spending and solving our fiscal dilemma. >> and so while the tone was positive, when you talk to aids, their position remains as they were this morning and the last couple of weeks. democrats want tax rates to increase still on families earning more than $250,000 per year and they want that to happen in the beginning of january when the scheduled rate increase is supposed to happen. republicans say any revenues must come from tax reform, a process next year, and must be accompanied by entitlement reform. a good tone coming out of the meeting was still remains far apart. david: you ever feel like

the most interesting thing, though, from the boehner aide was that john boehner believes there is not enough time from now until the end of the year to actually have a grand bargain. there's enough time, though, to put together the framework for what a grand bargain would look like. essentially have the top lines agreed to that by sometime in 2013 you could have both the chambers, the senate and the house, come together on some substantial tax reform, entitlement reform, and get rid of the sort of automatic cuts that we see as a sequester, and the tax increases and have a mechanism you can replace them with. listen to the congressional leaders in their photo op in the white house before thanksgiving that they had today. >> we've put revenue on the table, as long as it's accompanied by significant spending cuts. >> we have a cornerstones of being able to work something out. we're both going to have to give up some of the things that we know are a problem. >> we should have a goal in terms of how much deficit reduction. we should have a deadline before christmas. >> we fully understand
